The perfect Memorial Day Cocktail!

It's almost Summer! Though I guess in our minds this weekend is kind of the kick off of the Summer season right!? So before you know it the weekends will be full of parties, or just a lazy night for a cocktail.
Margarita's are to me the essential summer drink, however for the vast majority of us they usually come pre-mixed in a jug. Ugh!
Margarita's are not supposed to be neon green or yellow! Yep that's right, those lovely bottled beauties have food dye in them.
So why not try to whip up a batch on your own!? I admit I was a little nervous the first time I tried but you know what? It's not that hard!!! You'll get far better quality tequila (because you have control over what is going in) and you can make it as strong or weak as you like. Sounds like a winner to me!

This recipe is from Confections of a Foodie Bride and it's a real winner in my book!

Classic Lime Margarita
The refreshing classic margarita made with fresh limes - no bottled mixes here!

Ingredients

  • For the homemade margarita mix:
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup fresh squeezed lime juice (~8-12 limes)
  • For each margarita:
  • 1 recipe homemade margarita mix
  • 3/4 cup (6 oz) silver tequila
  • 1/2 cup (4 oz) orange liqueur
  • lime wedges/slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat water and sugar in a small sauce pan until completely dissolved and the water is clear. Let cool.
  2. Pour into a pitcher with lime juice. Homemade lime mix done! Leftovers will keep 7-10 days in a jar in the fridge.
  3. Add tequila and orange liqueur.
  4. Pour over ice and garnish with lime slices.
  5. To make frozen margaritas, freeze the lime mix into ice cubes. Blend the ice cubes with chilled tequila and orange liqueur until uniformly slushy.
